ABOUT BUILDING ENTERPRISE
Building Enterprise is a new skills centre located in the heart of New Addington offering local people the opportunity to develop and grow small business through construction skills training.
The realization of the centre has been made possible thanks to a successful bid for funding by the local Enterprise Growth Initiative (LEGI) managed through Croydon Enterprise.
There has rarely been a better time to consider a career in the construction industry:
*With skills shortages within the construction industry.
*The job opportunities that the 2012 Olympics will bring to London.
*£2 billion worth of new tradetraining1 planned for Croydon including the Park Place and Gateway schemes.
*New Addington benefitting from tradetraining1s such as Tesco, the CETs centre and the council refurbishment of New Addington homes.
Empowering local people
The Building enterprise centre offers training and support with the aim of empowering local people-through the tradetraining1 of construction skills- to set up small businesses or become self employed contractors within the construction industry.
A core 12 week programme has been designed to generate skills in the construction shortage areas of bricklaying, carpentry and plumbing. The programme will enable those taking part to develop new skills or to up-date existing experience. It also gives continued support so that participants develop the confidence and skills needed to become successful in their chosen field.
Short courses in other trades are scheduled throughout the year. Additionally, we are able to deliver tailor made courses to meet the needs of individual employers or groups.
Exploring opportunities Our Staff have been selected for their knowledge and industry expertise to ensure that the training provided by Building Enterprise is current and relevant to the needs of a modern construction industry.
With Health and Safety being of paramount importance with the construction industry, all participants will work towards gaining the CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) giving them authorisation to work on construction sites.
Alongside learning practical skills, support will be available to encourage those taking part to develop the self-belief and enthusiasm required to run a successful small business.
Opportunities will be explored and advice given to participants to understanding what skills they already possess, which skills need to be further developed and how to evaluate sound business ideas.
The Voice of experience
Starting a new business can be a daunting prospect. As part of the programme we will have experienced construction practitioners on hand - who have faced similar challenges and now run their own successful small businesses - to offer guidance and encouragement. Other practical help will include advice on tax, payroll, an introduction to finance and grants and how to develop business opportunities.
Building Enterprise would welcome the opportunity to work with community groups and outreach partners in an effort to increase access to key target groups.
